What is the Suzuki Method?

Dr. Shinichi Suzuki realized that all children learn to speak their native language with ease. As a violinist, he asked himself how this "mother tongue" approach could be applied to music, and the Suzuki Method was born. Children learn to speak their native language through listening, imitating, repeating, and being encouraged. The same concepts can be applied to music!
As when children learn to talk, parents are involved in their child's musical training. Parents attend weekly lessons and take notes so that they can help their child practice at home during the week.
Dr. Suzuki believed that “Musical ability is not an inborn talent but an ability which can be developed. Any child who is properly trained can develop musical ability, just as all children develop the ability to speak their mother tongue. The potential of every child is unlimited.”
